are ubiquitous. Their role in communicating extracellular events across the cell membrane is essential and has not been overlooked by those interested in the processes of signal transduction and by those attracted to manipulating signal pathways for disease therapy. The nature of GPCRs makes them suitable targets for drug therapy for a number of reasons. Depending on the signal pathway and the desired physiological response, they can be activated (agonists) or blocked (antagonists). The ligand binding site is accessible from the extracellular environment, thereby not requiring drugs to be able to enter the cell. Receptor subtype homology enables the development of ligands having a balanced effect by interacting equally with each subtype. In addition, receptor subtype heterology holds promise for the ability to exquisitely tune ligand specificity for particular tissues and particular physiological re-

Objective: The purpose of this study was to measure the changes of the SUN1 protein levels on soleus muscle in diabetic male wistar rats. Materials and Methods: Twenty male Wistar rats with 10 weeks old and weighing 200-250 grams were selected. After two weeks, the rats were divided into two groups (diabetic group and healthy group). After 12 hours fasting, diabetes was induced by intraperiton...

G-protein Coupled Receptor Dimerization

A growing body of evidence suggests that GPCRs exist and function as dimers or higher oligomers. The evidence for GPCR dimerization comes from biochemical, biophysical and functional studies. In addition, researchers have shown the occurrence of heterodimerization between different members of the GPCR family. Two receptors can interact with each other to make a dimer through their extracellular...

Probing the role of packing specificity in protein design.

By using a protein-design algorithm that quantitatively considers side-chain packing, the effect of specific steric constraints on protein design was assessed in the core of the streptococcal protein G beta1 domain. The strength of packing constraints used in the design was varied, resulting in core sequences that reflected differing amounts of packing specificity. The structural flexibility an...

China’s Maritime Interest and the Great Game at Seas

Linking China’s interest in the maritime waters arises from the geo-strategic importance of Sea Lines of Communications (SLOCs) vital to the oil supply of the country. China is building strategic relationships and developing a naval capability to establish a forward presence along the SLOCs that connect China to the Middle East and to Africa. The entire stretch includes South China Sea, Indian ...
